Abstract:

 

 

Friction stir processing (FSP) has been shown to be a possible method for distributing reinforcing particles into a metallic matrix and a variety of composites has been fabricated using this process.‎ FSP can also be used as a secondary processing technique to improve particle distribution and enhance mechanical properties of metal matrix composites produced by different methods such as casting or powder metallurgy.‎ A successful FSP composite fabrication process should be based on a comprehensive knowledge of the details of FSP.‎ In this regard a multi-pass multi-tool FSP composite fabrication technique that is rooted in material flow mechanisms during FSP will be discussed and results of Al matrix composites, reinforced with different particles and produced by this method, will be presented.‎ 

 

 

Biography:

Dr.HosseinIzadi earned his BSc and MSc in Materials Science and Engineering from Ferdowsi University of Mashhad.‎ He then received his PhD from the Canadian Center for Welding and Joining in the department of Chemical and Materials Engineering at University of Alberta, Canada.‎ During his PhD career he has worked on friction stir welding and processing and welding metallurgy of ferrous and nonferrous alloys under supervision of Dr.‎ Adrian Gerlich and Dr.‎ Patricio Mendez.‎ After finishing his PhD studies in 2013 he joined the faculty of medicine at University of Alberta as postdoctoral fellow to work on welding fumes characterization.‎ Since September 2014 he is a content developer/editor at Codes and Standards Training Institute ‪(CASTI)‬.‎
